Chapter 13

Becca

Becca latched her seatbelt before Linx had even slid into his side of the Porsche. The kiss in the snow had been amazing, but Brek had been right—Babushka was a loony tune. A fun looney tune, but Becca had worked a six-hour shift, and she didn’t want to end up in the starring role of one Babushka’s jailhouse stories.

Unless talking about rutabagas and Linx’s love dart counted as a story.

It probably counted. They still needed to skedaddle

“Well, wasn’t that just a ball of fun?” Becca still grinned. What could she say? The whole shebang had totally been worth the price of admission. Especially, ahem, the ending in the snow.

Linx revved the engine as they pulled onto the street.

His attempt at asserting his masculinity in a show of male fortitude was adorable. She didn’t say that because mentioning that he used his vehicle as a method of assuring her—a member of the opposite sex and someone in whom he clearly held copulation interest—would set him more on edge.

Since she wanted to spend more time with him, she didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize her situation. She had extra ginger ale in her mini-fridge. She would invite him up. Her futon wasn’t one of his mattresses, but it could still be fun.

Then their fling could finally get down to business. She wasn’t about to let the chance to spend a real night with a rock star slip through her fingers or get nicked away.

As long as he didn’t have another show of masculinity with his Porsche engine too close to her apartment. That would draw the attention of her parents, which would make it a whole thing. The absolute last thing she wanted was her dad coming outside to find out why there was a Porsche parked there.

“Do you mind not doing the engine masculinity thing when you get to the block where I live?” Becca said as they pulled to a stop at a light across from Whole Foods.

“Masculinity thing?” he asked.

“The revving of the engine.” She patted Portia’s dashboard.

He frowned. “I tapped on the gas.”

Uh huh. Yeah, and she just wore lace underwear to work that day because it made her feel pretty.

“Okay.” She wouldn’t push it. She shouldn’t have said anything to begin with. “Just, you know, don’t do it quite that hard when we get closer to my place.”

Unless you don’t want to come up. But if that’s the case, I’ll be super disappointed…

“I wasn’t planning on it.” Linx clicked on his blinker and totally did the rev thing again as he turned onto Speer Boulevard. “But while we’re discussing it, can I ask why you made this request?”

Ah, fine. Because I want to grope you and not alert my parents, I have company. “Dad’s got his poker buddies over. Apparently, they play all night and don’t care for interruptions.”

Also, I don’t want him to know you’re visiting.

“Do you want to crash at my place?” Linx asked. Did he sound… hopeful? He almost sounded hopeful. Given their romp in the snow, he was probably hopeful.
